Updating pe environment windows 8.1 dell
The original question of updating a PE environment has NOT been answered however, so I cannot choose a "best answer" at this time. I'm not able to find a clear answer about it anywhere, so perhaps not..
Just a question Why not shorten your deployment time to 45 min or less, whether your deploying to 1 or 50 machines? Now our deployment process is pretty much completely automated and whether we're deploying 2 or 10 machines, they are literally ready to hand to employees after minutes. All we have to do is run a single powershell command to pre-stage the pc and then PXE boot the machine s. Even our image creation is mostly automated. When were ready to use the latest Win10 rollup, we just copy the update into a share on the server and that same scheduled script injects it into the image and pushes the image to MDT.
When we're ready to deploy the latest major Win10 version aka Fall Creators update , we just dump the vanilla ISO and any rollup into a share and the same script grabs it, extracts the wim, removes appx packages we know we don't want, adds. We don't put applications in our image, instead we deploy a vanilla image and the last step of our MDT task sequence calls PDQ Deploy to push out the correct application package for that machine.
Most machines finish the process in minutes and we have a machine that is literally ready to hand to an employee. It's in the right AD OU, it's got all the right software with the latest patches, it's running the latest Windows rollup and security patches, etc etc.
Combined with USMT and redirected folders, we don't spend a lot of time troubleshooting wierd issues anymore I'm actually running a PXE server off of my laptop so I can use the same PE environment with some automated deployment processes at whatever client site I go to. I just keep a Win7 and Win10 pro image updated manually for deployments, though I'm now looking into provisioning packages for Windows I would be more concerned that you are legally able to do this, what licenses do they have for their OS?
The images are sysprepped and not activated before deployment. They are based on the OEM images that come packed on the machines new. Activation is done after imaging either automatically using the embedded key on the machine, windiws 10 or manually from the oem sticker on the system win7.
OEM images cannot be modified in ANY way, so you do have a licensing issue, you are not allowed to do this. HP techs were involved on an activation issue a few months back and said nothing about this to me then. Reading through that document, it says you can reimage using a custom oem image if the media was used for the initial install..?
Chris Microsoft. If anyone knows of a way to differentiate the two, I'd love to hear it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is frustrated by the lack of clarity on Microsoft's licensing agreements. If you have 20 HP model machines you can use the custom OEM media provided by HP for model to place an image on all 20 machines. You cannot modify that image in any way, though. This is basically saying that if you have a bunch of machines and you need to wipe them all out for a clean start maybe you are selling, maybe you just need to start over you can do it via a deployment tool, as long as you use the original OEM media.
Once this is installed the PE upgrade dialogue should come up again and then complete. After this you will be asked to restart your computer and it should be aok from there.
I've gotten two different popups--neither of which has brought me to a place where I can say that I don't want to see this message any more.
Do you remember what you clicked or did to get rid of this advertisement? I'm pretty irritated at Dell right now. This "Updating PE Environment" business has cost me a half hour and interrupted my work. I wish Dell would send me an email ad rather than disrupt my work flow. Basic is just fine for me.
